What Are
What is the HALO Laser?
The HALO is a hybrid fractional laser that delivers both non-ablative and ablative wavelengths to stimulate deep dermal rejuvenation and epidermal layer renewal. Its synergistic effect allows dermatologists to tailor treatment to their patient's needs.

How it works
How Does the HALO Laser Work?
The HALO laser gives out two types of laser beams:
- The non-ablative laser beam heats the collagen fibres in the deeper layers of the skin, causing skin tightening and improving skin texture.
- The ablative laser removes the skin's top layer, called the epidermis. Once the older outermost cell layer is removed, the newer, younger, and healthier skin cells are revealed.
Treatment with the HALO laser stimulates collagen production, which:
- Improves skin thickness and volume
- Removes pigmentation
- Coagulates blood vessels in people, causing redness
- Removes unwanted pigmentation
Use case
What Does the HALO Laser Do?
The HALO laser is used in the treatment of:
- Early signs of ageing (fine lines, wrinkles)
- Acne
- Acne scars
- Sun damage and age spots
- Pigmentation
- Dull and uneven skin tone
- Enlarged pores
The result of halo treatment is brighter, fresher and smoother-looking skin. Regular Halo laser treatments are a good way of maintaining the appearance of the skin.

What Happens During a HALO Laser Procedure?
Every treatment with the HALO laser begins with a detailed consultation with the dermatologist. They will evaluate your skin and determine if this laser is the right one for your concerns.
- You will be given safety wear before the procedure to protect your eyes during it, as the laser beam can be harmful to them.
- The dermatologist will apply a topical anaesthetic to the target area 45 minutes before the procedure to ensure your comfort.
- The laser is then passed over the target area. When the laser works on your skin, you may feel a burst of heat, pinpricks, or a tingling sensation.
The treatment with a HALO laser takes around 20 to 40 minutes, based on the size of the target area.
A few precautions that you need to take before undergoing a HALO laser procedure are:
- Inform your doctor if you have had cold sores in the recent past or are currently suffering from them
- You have taken isotretinoin in the last six months

- On the first day after the treatment, pinpoint bleeding from the target site may occur, but this usually settles down in a few hours.
- Itchiness or flaking of the skin that will shed naturally in a few days
- Mild swelling that subsides in 3 to 4 days as the skin heals
Moisturise your skin well and follow all the after-care Dos and Don’ts prescribed by the dermatologist.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
HALO laser therapy is virtually painless. When the laser is moved over the target area, you may feel a mild warm sensation. Our dermatologists apply a topical anaesthetic 45 minutes before the procedure to ensure maximum comfort.
HALO laser procedures are safe and effective when performed by a trained dermatologist. However, they may give rise to side effects such as:
- Infection
- Acne breakout
- Recurrence of a cold sore
- Redness or swelling that may last longer than a few weeks
The number of HALO laser therapy sessions required varies for every individual and depends upon the skin concern, desired goal and size of the target area. Your dermatologist will inform you about the number of sessions you will require during your consultation appointment.
Â
Typically, our experts recommend atleast two deep treatments, eight weeks apart and a yearly maintenance session for the face. You may require more number of sessions on the neck and body.
Â
You will begin to see the results of the HALO laser procedure in the first 5 to 7 days. However, the results on your skin will continue to improve, and it may take upto six months for the final results to develop completely.
Â
Since the ageing process continues, we recommend 1-2 follow-up yearly sessions to maintain the anti-ageing benefits of the HALO laser procedure.Â
After a HALO laser procedure, our dermatologist will prescribe a skincare regimen to help maintain the effects of the treatment. Here are a few aftercare measures to take:
Â
- Avoid everyday skincare products for atleast 5 days after the procedure
- Wash your face in the morning and pat it dry. Avoid rubbing.
- Apply a barrier cream the dermatologist prescribes to prevent your skin from drying.
- Take the medications you have been prescribed to reduce the risk of infections.
- Avoid exercise or sweating for atleast one week after the procedure to ensure complete skin healing.
Â
There is little or no downtime after a HALO laser procedure. We usually recommend a low downtime of 5 to 7 days, during which you can resume all your daily activities but avoid sweating or using your regular skincare products. This ensures optimal skin healing and maximum treatment effectiveness.
The Sciton HALO laser treatment is safe and suitable for all skin types.Â
Depending upon your skin condition, concerns and desired goal, the dermatologist will recommend if you require any additional treatment along with the HALO laser procedure. A few treatments that can be combined with the HALO laser treatment are:
- BBLÂ
- Micropeel
- Full-ablative laser
The duration of treatment depends upon the skin concern and the size of the target area. Typically, each session takes 20 to 40 minutes.
