When is the Filler Dissolving procedure required?

A filler dissolving procedure may be required for the following reasons:

In a few cases, the filler injected into the face can migrate or spread from its original position. This can occur due to poor technique and knowledge of the doctor, use of incorrect products and frequent retreatments. Filler can migrate when excess product is used.

When done properly, a filler procedure is almost always successful. However, some individuals may develop bumps and lumps when the filler does not spread evenly under the skin. While this situation usually resolves itself, sometimes dissolving the filler is the only option available.

Getting fillers is as smooth as planning a holiday! However, sometimes you hit a roadblock. In some rare cases, people may develop intense pain, discolouration or other symptoms following a filler procedure. In these cases, a filler dissolution procedure may be required.

Types of Filler Dissolving materials

Fillers available today can be reversible and non-reversible.

  • These fillers are commonly used.
  • The most common reversible filler today is hyaluronic acid.
  • Other temporary fillers are calcium hydroxyapatite and polymethacrylate microspheres. Permanent fillers
  • These cannot be reversed once injected into the body.
  • While their appearance reduces over time, reversing them is almost impossible.

The most popular filler-dissolving material is hyaluronidase. This is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. When hyaluronidase is injected into the area of the filler material, it rapidly breaks down the filler and absorbs it for safe elimination from the body.

What does Filler Removal involve?

To get a filler dissolved, you will require:

- A consultation with our qualified aesthetician, who performs a physical evaluation of the site and understands your concerns or desired outcome

- If you are a candidate for filler dissolution, hyaluronidase is administered into the area.

- A follow-up appointment is advised to assess the results and determine if additional treatment is clinically indicated.

PROCEDURE

Filler Dissolving Procedure

The procedure for filler removal involves the following:

To prepare for a filler dissolving process, you must avoid medications like aspirin and nutritional supplements that may interfere with healing. You must also stop smoking several weeks before the procedure, as it may disrupt healing.

  • The expert will apply a skin-numbing cream to minimise discomfort during and after the procedure.
  • Next, hyaluronidase is injected into the area with a thin needle. The enzyme breaks down the hyaluronic acid, which forms your filler.
  • The procedure takes around 10 minutes to 15 minutes to complete.
  • You can expect mild swelling or bruising in the area after the procedure.
  • While these side effects usually resolve in a few days, your doctor may prescribe medications to help you manage them better.
  • Avoid applying excessive heat or cold on the area.
  • Refrain from strenuous workouts and activities for atleast 24-48 hours after the procedure.
  • Keep yourself hydrated

Depending on the amount of filler in the facial area, dissolving a filler can take one to two sessions. The complete results can take one to two weeks to show. The amount of time taken for the result depends upon many factors, especially the type and brand of hyaluronidase used and the quantity of filler in the area.
