Weight Loss

At Hortman Clinics, we have a comprehensive health evaluation and assessment to help men and women achieve healthy weight loss.

Our weight loss packages also comprise maintenance therapy that empowers patients to maintain their weight within the optimal range.

TREATMENT

Our weight loss package comprises the following assessments!

During the consultation appointment, our expert will take a comprehensive evaluation of your health, diet, and lifestyle factors through physical assessment and history taking. You will be required to come for one or more consultation follow-ups, which helps our healthcare professionals determine your needs and create tailor-made plans for your effective weight loss.

The Seca Body Composition Scale is a breakthrough device for monitoring weight loss. It offers unparalleled precision and accurate data. In addition to pre-treatment analysis, it offers a comprehensive approach to tracking weight loss progress.

The Seca analyser is more than a weighing scale, as it gives a deeper insight into your body’s composition, with metrics like muscle mass, bone density, water content, and fat mass. It also helps clinicians determine BMI with 97% accuracy, compared to MRI for muscle mass.

During all consultation appointments, our clinicians will perform a vitals check. These include body temperature, pulse rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure. A variation in one or more of these parameters indicates your body is experiencing an infection or a chronic condition. It is imperative to restore vitals to their normal levels before attempting weight loss.

In the follow-up appointment, your doctor will evaluate the lab tests and readings to determine any underlying cause of excess weight. Standard lab tests that are recommended include:

  • Thyroid hormone assessment
  • Vitamin D status
  • Cortisol (stress hormone) levels
  • Assessment of insulin resistance
  • Testosterone status
  • Liver Function Test (LFTs) and Kidney Function Test
  • Inflammatory molecule assessment
  • Levels of growth hormone

Glycosylated Haemoglobin (HbA1C)

Glucose in blood, or blood sugar, is attached to haemoglobin. This is called glycosylated haemoglobin.

As soon as blood sugar levels increase, more sugar is bound to haemoglobin. HbA1c is the average blood sugar or glucose for the past three months. In people with diabetes or prediabetes, the HbA1c levels are usually higher.

People who are overweight or obese are at a higher risk of developing prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

At the same time, weight loss has been seen to decrease HbA1c levels. For this reason, a glycosylated haemoglobin level test is an integral part of our weight loss package for males and females.

Lipid Profile - (Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, VLDL, Cholesterol/HDL Ratio, HDL/Cholesterol Ratio)

A Lipid Profile test is an essential part of our weight loss package. It typically measures the quantity of lipids (fats and cholesterol) in blood. This panel measures:

While a Lipid Profile is usually a part of a regular health checkup, it may be done for the following reasons:

This test is important for monitoring your weight loss journey because during active weight loss in overweight individuals, the levels of HDL decrease. However, once the weight loss is stable, the HDL levels rise to baseline or original levels or above.

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel

Another routine test in a health checkup, the comprehensive metabolic panel test, measures 14 different substances in the given blood sample.

These parameters give a deeper insight into your metabolism and the breakdown of certain chemicals in the body. The comprehensive metabolic panel measures:

Even a 5% weight loss can improve blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity, especially in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Weight loss programmes are personalised and tailor-made for every individual. The time you take for weight loss depends upon how much weight you wish to lose, the underlying cause, and consistency in diet and exercise.

Blood TSH levels are directly related to weight. Individuals with deficient TSH often find their weight has increased. This is because TSH and, subsequently, thyroid hormones affect metabolism.
