- Fine lines, wrinkles and early ageing spots
- Acne scars
- Sun damage and sun spots
- Melasma
- Rosacea
- Uneven skin texture and tone
What Happens During the StarWalker® Laser Procedure?
StarWalker® uses photoacoustic energy to break down the pigments in your skin into smaller particles. These particles are able to leave the body through the lymphatic system. It uses ultra-short bursts of energy focussed towards intended micro-pigments to deal with melasma pigmentation that requires precision.
Unlike other lasers, the StarWalker® does not generate heat energy that may have ablative effects on the target area and its surrounding tissues. Instead, the skin pigments disintegrate gently without harming the skin.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Fotona’s StarWalker® laser uses the patented MaQX pulse modality to produce powerful bursts of laser energy that break or disintegrate the pigment in the skin into smaller particles, making them easier to eliminate. The StarWalker® uses photoacoustic technology to do this.
Fotona’s StarWalker® delivers precise and targeted energy to the treatment area. It is an excellent and effective treatment for spots on the face. The number of sessions needed to reduce spots depends on how deep and large the pigmentation area is.
StarWalker® laser treatment is not painful; most people only feel mild discomfort or warm or tingling sensation. You may feel little pricks on the skin during the treatment, which is tolerable. If you are uncomfortable during the laser procedure, ask the doctor for a numbing cream.
StarWalker® uses third-generation photoacoustic technology to disintegrate melanosomes that produce melanin pigment. The laser's narrow beam effectively reduces the pigmentation seen in chronic conditions like melasma.
StarWalker® laser treatment is largely safe and comfortable. However, some people may experience redness, mild swelling, bruising, and pinpoint bleeding. These effects are temporary and subside in a few hours or days.
The StarWalker® laser treatment is popular as it offers several benefits, such as:
- It is versatile and treats a wide range of skin conditions like freckles, pigmentation, and uneven skin tone
- No heat is generated during the procedure, so it is far more comfortable
- It produces minimal side effects
- Has little or no downtime
- No post-treatment inflammatory scarring or pigmentation are seen
The results of StarWalker® laser therapy are long-lasting but not permanent. You will require maintenance sessions during the year. The skincare expert will explain how many follow-up sessions you need during the consultation appointment.
There is little or no downtime after StarWalker® laser therapy. If you experience one or more side effects, like redness or mild swelling, be rest assured that they will subside in a few hours to a couple of days. When StarWalker® laser therapy is used to treat melasma or other pigmentation, you can expect darkening of the pigmentation.
StarWalker® laser therapy is suitable for people of all skin types and tones, including those with deeper complexions who are often excluded from laser therapies. Our skin expert will evaluate your skin condition and determine the most suitable treatment plan and whether StarWalker® laser therapy is effective for you.
For optimal results, we recommend 6 to 8 sessions performed every 4 weeks for the facial skin and 8 weeks for the body. However, the number of sessions depends upon your skin condition, concern, and desired goal.
You will need 2-3 sessions per year to maintain the results of your skin treatment following StarWalker® laser therapy. Our skincare expert at Hortman Clinics will discuss your treatment plan with the StarWalker® laser during the consultation appointment.
